How to Upload a Book to Amazon KDP (Complete Step-By-Step Tutorial)

About this video

A click-by-click KDP upload tutorial for both ebook and paperback. Prerequisites are a formatted manuscript and a cover; first he sets up tax and bank details in the KDP account. For the ebook he walks through title/subtitle, series and edition fields, author or pen name, description (he generates a draft with ChatGPT and edits it), publishing rights, audience flags, three categories, and the seven backend keywords — advising against repeating words already in the title/subtitle since the book already ranks for those. He skips DRM, uploads the manuscript (EPUB or Word) and cover, answers the AI-generated content questions honestly, and uses the previewer to check links and layout. On pricing he recommends enrolling in KDP Select, all territories, a $0.99 launch price at the 35% tier if doing a launch promotion, otherwise the 70% tier priced between $2.99 and $9.99 (he typically charges $3.99–$9.99). The paperback flow reuses most metadata, takes the free KDP ISBN, black-and-white interior on white paper, matte finish, expanded distribution, and competitor-based pricing. Review takes up to 72 hours, and sales are checked under Reports.

Key takeaways

• Backend keywords should add new search phrases, not repeat title/subtitle words
• Enroll in KDP Select and price ebooks in the $2.99–$9.99 band to earn the 70% royalty
• Always run the previewer and check hyperlinks before submitting for review
• Paperback reuses ebook metadata, but categories, ISBN, trim, bleed and cover file differ
• Answer the AI-content disclosure honestly; he says it is a survey, not a penalty
