Tim Kennedy — Green Beret Sniper, UFC Headliner, NYT Bestselling Author | Self Growth Videos

Tim Kennedy is a decorated Green Beret sniper, former UFC headliner, and the instant New York Times bestselling author of Scars and Stripes. He has hunted poachers, human traffickers, and the Taliban; tackled a bull with his bare hands; been kicked out of three departments before he turned twenty-five; and rebuilt himself into the founder of Sheepdog Response and the private school Apogee Cedar Park in Texas. He believes the only way out of failure is straight through it.

About Tim Kennedy — Green Beret Sniper, UFC Headliner, NYT Bestselling Author | Self Growth Videos

Tim Kennedy was born in 1979 in San Luis Obispo, California. He was the kid who wouldn’t quit fighting even after he had already lost the fight. By his early twenties he had been kicked out of the police department, the fire department, and EMT school, gotten two women pregnant four days apart, and been beaten up by his own Special Forces colleagues for, in his words, “being a selfish asshole.” He tells these stories in his memoir as if he is still trying to learn from them — and he probably is.

After 9/11 he enlisted in the Army. He completed Ranger School, then went on to qualify for Special Forces, earning the Green Beret. He served as a sniper attached to 7th Special Forces Group, deployed to Afghanistan and the Middle East, and earned the Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge. After leaving active duty he kept fighting — first inside the cage as a UFC middleweight headliner, then on television as the host of the Discovery Channel’s Hard to Kill and the History Channel’s Hunting Hitler.

His business life started where his fighting life left off. Sheepdog Response is the tactical training company he built to teach civilians, executives, and protective details how to survive violence — situational awareness, hand-to-hand, weapons handling, escape and evasion. Apogee Cedar Park is the private school he founded in Texas because he was unwilling to send his own kids into the system the way it currently is. He is also a partner in Save Our Allies, the humanitarian operation that pulled thousands of Americans, allies, and at-risk Afghans out of Kabul during the 2021 collapse.

In 2022 he published Scars and Stripes: An Unapologetically American Story of Fighting the Taliban, UFC Warriors, and Myself. It became an instant New York Times bestseller and stayed on the list for weeks. The book is a war story, a redemption story, and a how-to manual for failure — Kennedy’s working thesis is that you do not actually know what you are made of until everything you have built has been ripped down to the studs at least three times. He has been there, he says, more often than is strictly necessary.

What makes Kennedy worth listening to is not the resume — plenty of veterans have impressive resumes. It is the unflinching honesty about how much of his own success was paid for in the early years by people he hurt and choices he is not proud of. He does not pretend the failures were preparation. He says they were failures. And then he tells you what he did about them. That distinction is rare in this space, and it is what separates Scars and Stripes from the rest of the warrior-mindset shelf.
